Repairing plaster under stripped wallpaper

by jrpryr25 » Thu Mar 10, 2022 10:52 pm

Hello,

DIY-Novice here hoping to get advice on how to repair some walls I’ve stripped of lino-paper and wallpaper

My intention was to strip paper, sugar soap it, sand it and then prime, before filling in crack/gaps. However I am now confused by what I’ve found underneath.

In Room 1 it seems half the wall has old brown plaster, some of which is starting to fall off (photos attached), and the other half doesn’t, and looks much more damaged.

In Room 2 it seems one wall is brown, and the other grey.

My first question is what people recommend I do in both rooms to achieve the smoothest finish? Does Room 1 look like something I can fix by removing all the brown plaster and doing the list I mentioned before, or does anything look like it will need replastering?

Any advice would be appreciated!!
Thanks

Hi jrprur25,
Suggest you sand and fill, then mist coat and paint to see how good/bad the finish is. If it’s really bad you may have to have the wall skimmed.
Regards S
