Repairing water damaged plasterboard

by shalebing » Sat May 14, 2022 5:56 pm

The plasterboard ceiling in one of my bedrooms has suffered some water damage. I was going to try and effect a repair by scraping off all the loose paper and filling with joint compound but as I am not the best of DIYers perhaps this is not a valid option. Would it be better cutting out the damage and a plasterboard patch put in?

Hi shalebing,
The damage looks more like lining paper than plasterboard, if this is the case wet the sagged edges, allow the paper to soften, apply wallpaper glue to both paper and ceiling, then stick it back up.
Regards S
