Replacing cement based plaster damaged by damp

by HazzaKyn » Wed May 20, 2020 10:10 pm

Hi there,

I hope this is the right place to post this.

I have just bought an oldish house (built in 1917) that has had years of ongoing issues with damp, mainly caused by there only being 1 air brick (that was blocked up) for the entire downstairs suspended floor, anyway it's a soild brick wall with external cement based render and an internal cement base/plaster coat. So the walls couldn't breathe. This has caused large chunks of the internal plaster to come loose from the wall. My question is what is the best way to repair this? I have broken off all the stuff that is loose and have addressed the damp issue by cutting in more airbricks and removing the debris from the dirt to allow better airflow.

Should I replace it with the same cement based stuff or is there another option?

Thanks
