replacing electric shower

Post by mscg » Sat Jun 23, 2007 9:17 pm

i have been asked to change an old 7kw shower but rather concerned as the fuse board is old rewirable fuse type with only 30 amp fuses in. shower is 10 meters from board and cable looks like 6mm - could i insert 40amp mcb and run a 9.5kw shower and should I insist on a rcb to be fitted before any work is undertaken

Electric shower fitting

This item MUST have a 40 ma RCD/MCB and the wire will need to be upgraded as it is only for a 7Kw shower, most 9Kw showers will need the next size up cable even allowing for a 10 percent tolerance!!! Do not fit it if in doubt get a qualified electrician that is part p registered.
