Replacing Existing Driveway Post your questions and get answers regarding all areas of drives, pathways and patios

I'm planning to replace my existing driveway. The current one is 17 years old and looks tired with broken wobbly slabs and horrible black gravel.

My question is : Do I need to dig right back to the soil and replace scalpings etc or can I just lift the existing slabs and gravel and lay new ones over existing base?

THERE IS NO NEED TO GO BACK TO SOIL LEVEL, JUST REVEAL THE ORIGINAL BASE.

ENSURE THAT ANY SURFACE HOLES/DEPRESSIONS ARE TOPPED UP AND COMPACT THE WHOLE AREA TO PROVIDE THE NECERSSARY LEVELS AND FALLS TO MAINTAIN SURFACE RUN OFF/DRAINAGE AND LAY YOUR NEW PAVING/SURFACE IN SAND OR MORTAR DEPENDING ON TRAFFIC THAT WILL USE IT.
