I can't seem to find any meaningful information online so thought I register here to see if anyone can help me.
We have a garage at the bottom of our garden that we'd like to convert into an office space. The garage is no longer accessible from the street as we've fenced it in and up to now it's used as a glorified shed.
The plan is to do the dpm, framing, insulation and plaster boarding myself. I'll get an electrician in to do all the electrical work.
The issue I have is with the detail of replacing the up and over door with bifolds.
The opening has a substantial concrete lintel above, so only the weight of the new doors needs to be supported at floor level. If a car can drive over this point then surely the load of the bi-fold doors is less, especially as much of the load will be transferred to the lintel and the walls where it is attached.
My intention would be to pour a concrete pad directly onto the existing concrete floor base to get the finished floor level interface to the door frame correct.
All the bifold installation videos I've seen have them packed at the bottom with spacers, so are new foundation actually required?
