Replacing laminate with a thicker floor - thoughts?

by steven.fox@gmail.com » Thu Jun 24, 2021 5:45 pm

Hello, I'm looking to replace a laminate floor and I'm concerned about building up too much as we have quite low ceilings here (2338mm).

The current laminate is just 7mm with no underlay and I'm looking at 15mm engineered wood, plus I'm quite keen to use sound proofing mats below, which could add a further 15mm for the better ones.

Do you think losing 23mm (around an inch) on that height of ceiling would be a big deal? Also looking at alternatives like laminate which are a good bit thinner but would prefer the engineered wood as I don't have kids/pets and will likely be there a while.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated!
