Wish to replace existing looped in ceiling rose light fitting with low energy spot light in hall way - the holes not bigger enough to push a junction box through and their no excess from above - would it be acceptable to connect the wiring to the spotlight via a plastic connector strip and push that into the roof space. :?:

Most people do but if your asking it that is to the regulations then no it's not. Be careful with label "Low Energy" seems some people are labeling quartz halogen as "Low Energy" as it gives slightly more light than normal bulb but only discharge and LED are "Low Energy" i.e. if you can't touch the bulb it's not "Low Energy". It seems no real research has been done as to how much the heat from non energy saving bulbs reduces energy used by central heating and because the heat from bulbs is in the main radiated heat number of air changes will effect the results the more air changes the more the bulbs will help. When I was on NEXT refurbishment in Chester all heating with exception of door curtain heater was done by lighting. The first building to do this was MANWEB building again in Chester so good now been pulled down!! Anyway guy from energy saving trust reckoned rather than £40 saving more like £14 by time extra on central heating has been taken into account. I like the low maintainance on discharge lights and use them as a result but don't believe they save energy!

Its a Megaman CFL GX53 Bulb, just trying to save on amount of electricity used. Do the regulations insist on a juntion box !
Is the current method used a fire risk !
