I am trying to replace an existing manual dimmer with the above model but the wiring instructions, both on the package and on line have left me confused. For reasons I don't want to waste time explaining, I do not have access to the lighting circuit in this extension location. Therefor I have taken power from a socket to an isolating switch with a 3amp fuse and then to the dimmer before the ceiling light. The wiring diagram shows a single cable to the switch marked: X S L and how to connect them. I have, of course, a 3core cable in and the same out to the light. I should be most grateful for some enlightenment; no pun intended!

You need a block connector of some type for the earth and neutral wires. Only the line wire goes to the unit.
