Hi
Am intending to replace a 22mm T&G chipboard floor in a bedroom as has become excessively noisy both in room and in room below. Cannot remove all T&G under skirting and fitted wardrobes so looking to use 18mm softwood floorboards and also insert a acoustic joist tape (wool/rubber/foam) of circa 4mm on joist to reduce noise and achieve 22mm finished level floor. Also intend to put slab Rockwool acoustic insulation between joists to help further noise reduction. Some of the joist tapes on offer seem only to be recommended for floating floors but I want to screw boards into joists through tape. Is this a sensible solution? First floor was constructed 18 months ago over existing ground floor and squeaking began 6 months later. T&G boards were screwed into 175mm x 75mm joists at 400mm centres. At suggestion of builder T&G was cut out and replaced with all T&G being glued before screwed down but noise is now actually worse so looking for a new floor solution.
