Restoring Hallway and Fireplace Tiles in Victorian House

by staceymelia » Thu Nov 03, 2016 1:08 pm

Hoping someone can help, we are first time home owners so haven't done anything like this before.

We recently bought a house dated around 1890. There are tiles in the hallway and around the fireplace which we have uncovered would like to keep if possible. I have no idea if they are original.

I have attached some photos, and would appreciate advice on how to clean them up a bit. I have read some contradictory things on various websites so I am hoping that photos can help to clarify.

Any advice would be great, thank you!

It is not clear what you want to achieve, use a scrubbing brush and water with
a mild soap.I can see one floor is tile but the other looks like stone.Glazed tiles
are ok to take a washing with brick cleaner if there is old mortar stains while the
if they are, stone tiles should just need a good scrubbing.
