ring cable rating/mcb rating

by aido » Sun Jun 24, 2007 8:48 pm

hi,

I'm adding a socket to an existing ring protected by a 32a mcb with a mixture of white 7 strand t+e and grey 2.5mm t+e cabling.

Just want to check that it is ok to use 2.5mm t+e rated at 27a when the circuit is protected by a 32a mcb??? Assume it is as it already used in the curcuit?

Also, am I right in thinking adding a bedroom socket to an existing ring doesn't require a part p "competent person"?

hi AIDO right both times,
although 2.5 rated lower than 32A, this is the reason you are only allowed one double skt as a max on unfused spur from ring 'cos even if both outlets fully loaded max current in spur would be 2 X 13A = 26A because of fuses limiting effect.
Yes You can add a spur to ring as long as not in kitchen!
