Hello

The shower in my bathroom is right next to the window, which is set in a 20cm recess in the wall.

A big puddle of water collects on the sill every day. I push it off and leave the extractor fan on/window open for 30 mins after showering but my bathroom still smells damp and the paint is starting to crack.

The frame of the window is also starting to look slightly rotten.
Can anyone recommend anything to help?

You need to remake the cill with tiles or a PVC moulding to form a slope from which the water can run back into the shower and not puddle Jenny. Thye frame needs to be stripped back to bare wood and any rot cut out. You then paint the timber with wood hardener and fill with two part, high performance, wood filler. See our projects on paint stripping and filling cracks around the house. You will be able to buy a very good paint stripper and the hardener and filler you need. When the new cill is in position make sure the joint between cill and frame is well protected by good quality bathroom sealant.
