ryobi are a good make and reosonably priced had a few of there tools and found them quite reliable
if you can stretch then makita or dewalt are more hardwearing

you could try putting wood blocks on the underside of your units with a good quality adhesive and the same on your floor then attache with metal clips or if your not bothered about removing them you could glue them on.

you need to cut the pew at a 45 degree angle,your probably best cutting a straight cut then cutting the angles,when you rejoin them youll need to support the joint,you could biscuit join them but id also recommend extra support and legs at the join.

usually with bi-fold doors you do not fit latches as the track has a spring wich holds the door in place,the handles are usually recessed into the door.

its a very old solution but you could try talcum powder,it acts as a lubricant between the boards, know it sounds daft but its suppose to work. have you tried simply screwing the boards down to the joists,if your having carpet these wont be seen,remember to only screw at edge of boards as pipes ect....
