Remove paint fron sandstone steps

Hello I have some old sandstone steps that have been marked over the years with paint spots when the house was repainted. I've used a power washer to remove the general dirt and alge but the paint won't budge. I tried paint stripper and spirits of salt, but the paint doesn't react. Is my best bet me...

Chrome Bales Catch

Hi All I can only find brass Bales catches online. Suerly someone must chrome/zinc/nickle plate them? I know you get samll chrome bales catches for furniture, but what I would like is the larger size for my doors (seems pointsless having nice shiney chrome hinges and a brass catch). Cheers MSR

Porcelain Tiles Ruined

Dear All I used Viakal limescale remover on my chrome wear and some of the spray went onto my (dark grey) porcelain tiles. Five minutes later the tiles were covered in streaky bleached lines. My question is, can stained porcelain tiles normally be repaired or if not, is it possible to replace only t...

Chipped Porcelain Tiles

Hi My builder has fitted porcelain tiles (on bathroom wall) but I've just noticed that the edges are chipped where they've been cut. The tiles are near black and have a black grout, but it's enough for me not to be happy. They've been up for about three weeks now so I'd like to know 1) can the chipp...

Imitation Concrete Floor

Hi All

Given that a polished concrete floor is A) Not a DIY job and B) In the region of £2500-3000 for 14 M2, does anyone know of any convincing alternatives?

Cheers

Hi I'm looking at smoothing out an existing Artex ceiling and here's what I've discovered. A), It's not a DIY job and B) It's quite expensive. If you have coving then it may have to be removed and either left off or refitted as preferred. This is because if the Artex had to go on quite thick, you ma...

Tiles or units first?

Hi All, Which should come first? A freshly tiled kitchen floor, then the cabinetry, or cabinetry, then the floor? My concern with having the floor first is that when the cabinet maker fits the kitchen, I don't want to find that the plinth runs a few centimetres way from a grout line and that they're...
