Cheers Paul, it was actually £2,400 including TRVs. I'm just waiting on a quote from somebody else fitting a Viessmann (30kw) with all the above including chemical flush. He's estimated it should come in under/around £2k, it'll be a two-man job and will include 5yr warranty (10yr on heat exchanger) ...

Glad I've stumbled across this, just had our boiler written off and the gasman (nice guy, serviced our boilers for a number of years) has recommended Alpha (CD28C) Combis! I'd suggested pricing a Vaillant or Veissmann that I'd heard good things about, previously had a Worcester Bosch Combi in our ol...

Bump...or rather boom!... This problem had settled down until yesterday. Wife went to run hot water tap, nothing, realised it had cut-out. Reset it, cut-out again when tap turned on then...boom! Blew front cover off, buckled cover behind. I wasn't there at the time but she said there wasn't any smel...

Cheers Rigga, if I'm thinking the same as you're suggesting I've done something similar a few years ago - I've still got the graining tool around somewhere! I've decided to wait for a bit of fine weather over a weekend, take a door out back and attack it with a belt sander and see what happens, tho'...

Draining/refilling combi boiler system

I need to replace a sticking TRV (tried the usual tapping the pin/moving up & down/tapping valve/WD-40 to no avail) so need a few pointers in doing it/draining system correctly, do I just... Turn off at stop cock, turn off boiler, drain system (I've a drain cock on rad). Fit new TRV. Refill syst...

Lightening stained doors?

Maybe a daft question (but there seems to be products for everything these days), can dark stained doors be lightened in any way? We've got some pretty good doors but are a kind of medium mahogany finish, no doubt it would take a helluva lot of sanding down! ...and before anyone suggests, white pain...

Long Length Laminate Edging?

Just to be a bit different I've just part-carpeted/part-laminated my son's bedroom. I was fairly sure I'd seen longer lengths of, in this case, carpet-to-laminate-floor edging but am now struggling to find anything. Does this exist? The adjoining edges are getting on for 13ft long, don't want to mak...

Cheers htg...

The previous owner was aware of this "occasional" mishap and as they had a service plan with British Gas (it was serviced not that long ago by them) I'm surprised they'd never rectified the problem.

But you've given me something to go on.

Thanks again,
Tott

Bump. Thought I'd just give this another try... Just a thought, as I believe it does this to stop overheating, whether it could be a faulty sensor/PCB problem as it can be working fine all evening heating the rads, switch off OK on the timer, but lockout sometimes before coming on in the morning whe...

Glow Worm Combi Lock-Out

Following a recent house move we've inherited a Glow Worm Compact 80e Combi Boiler which ofrequently locks-out (sometimes not for weeks, others times 3 or 4 times a week), which is easily remedied by a simple push of a button. As we're now using the central heating it's becoming a bit more of an iss...

Moving a Front Door

I currently have a front door set back in a recess (can't explain it any better but a common layout) and plan to move it forward flush with the outside wall making the hallway longer in the process. It's only a door, no side panels/windows and I'll need to raise (and insulate) the floor out to the n...

Water Softener/Descaler

I've recently moved house and brought with us an 'Easyflow' compact electronic water softener (similar to the Eddy as shown on here) but have lost any instructions that came with it and can't remember whether the wires you coil around the incoming water main have to go in any particular direction, i...

Thanks again for your reply and helpful information - I'll look into your suggestions. As I understand it the digital signal is presently quite low which (as you say) will improve 'dramatically' after the switch over from analogue - unfortunately our region (south/south east) is the last one to get ...
