Consumer Unit

[quote="ericmark"]mraich thank you for your reply. Was the change before or after July 1st i.e. was it to old BS7671:2001 or new BS7671:2008? I think prices have changed on 1st July as requirements now higher. As to Kalirel Electric Radiators? I have already given my thoughts. As to why bo...

[quote="ericmark"]To become more or less efficient any storage system must be able not to release heat until required. I looked at the web site and they look nice but no real speculations as to how they “store” the heat. If you look at Gledhill and their hot water storage system the heat c...

Consumer Unit

[quote="ericmark"]Possible yes but it is likely to be very costly. The new BS7671:2008 regulations would need to be followed which would mean most likely a new consumer unit. Plus any faults in the house would be high lighted and it could easy escalate into a very costly exercise. It is no...

Electric Radiators

Hi All. Just wonder if any of you know anything about KALIREL Electric Radiators. I am considering having one installed in a rom that has no heat at present. The Kalirel rep is touting it as THE most efficient electric radiator there is. How do they stand up efficiency-wise and cost-wise?
Thanks

Re: Grey/white grouting

[quote="caffycat"]We had a tiler retile our bathroom - we asked him to use white grout. We used natural stone tiles. But he did the whole room in grey. He's now scarpered and left us with it. Is it possible to add white grout directly on top of the grey? Or would we need to try and remove ...

Drill Holes In Tiles

Can anything be done with wall tiles which have had holes drilled in them. I want to replace a mirror in the bathroom which is attached to the wall tiles by having holes drilled in the tiles. It is unlikely that I can get a new mirror of the same dimensions. Thank you.

Moving Consumer Unit

[quote="ericmark"]As to 10 or 12 way it would depend what you intend to put in it. I have seen the door bell transformer being put directly in the consumer unit. The distance above floor is Part M not 17th Edition and reading it again it does not seem to cover consumer units as such. The 1...

Underfloor Heating

My friend just had elctric underfloor heating installed in a new extension. Does anyone know how economical this kind of heating is. How about 'wet' underfloor heating. Can that be installed in an existing bungalow with a concrete floor?

[quote="ericmark"]With the introduction of the 17th Edition or BS 7671:2008 prices for materials have gone up and what is required depends on many factors materials alone could vary from £100 to £500 depending on make and system adopted. One of the big problems when changing consumer uni...

Coving/Painting

Oops! Just read in my 1998 DIY Manual that you should never use gloss paint on expanded polystyrene coving - it creates a fire hazard. Can anyone tell me if this applieas to water-based gloss paint. Maybe water-based gloss wasn't available when this manual was written. I have used the water-based gl...

We are required to have a new 10-way split load RCD consumer unit installed to replace the existing consumer unit. The existing consumer unit is located in a kitchen base unit. Computer or Printer

Not sure whether this is a computer problem or a printer problem. The problem is when I print from an email it prints so small I can hardly read it. Most other things I print come out at the selected type size setting - 12 for example. Any ideas?
