Toilet Cistern Overflowing Unless Float Manually Lifted

There seems to be friction between the lever and the threaded rod which sets the float height / water level. The valve is simila...

Re: Hotpoint CTD40 Heater/Parts

Sadly Hotpoint appliances are not made to the same standard they were years ago and those heater elements are particularly flimsy. I have heard some owners have had success with fitting the heater from a slightly earlier model of Hotpoint dryer. These were altogether more sturdy with a proper steel ...

Cold Floorboards

I think the reason is the position on the side of a hill and the construction of the cottage. There is a large...

Unplug before you remove the back. If you have a multimeter, set it to a low ohms range and measure the resis...

[quote="EyeTry"] If you have a CWST on a platform across rafters in the loft and you have a shower unit in any room below where the shower head is e.g. 2 feet below the ceiling then the only head of water available to you would be that 2 feet plus the few inches to the base of that tank. E...

I asked a question on the "Ask the Trades" forum and got this description:

"The head is the distance between the bottom of the storage tank and the highest part of the cylinder, e.g the pipe coming out the top."

Head of Water

Could someone please explain to me what is meant by the term "head of water" with respect to an open vented header tank / direct cylinder hot water system. I thought the head of water was the vertical distance between the top surface of water in the header tank and the taps but I'm told th...
