Wiring enigma

Thanks for the explanation. I have tested with a meter and had already discovered that the two yellows that I have are the 'switched' cables but only one of them is connected to the switch itself and the other one is the feed to the next lamp. Although I did disconnect the old ceiling rose be...

Wiring enigma

Thanks ericmark. I'm not sure what 'ring out' means but I can make an educated guess and therefore probably needs the help of someone qualified. There are no instructions to my house - it has been knocked about over the years and needs many jobs doing so the wiring is just one of the non-standard fe...

One cold radiator -no air though

Two of my radiators have never worked properly since moving in to my house. The system had been drained down and so I had to re-fill when moving in. I eventually got around to trying to sort them out and indeed fixed one of them which was full of air. This one now works fine. The last one that doesn...

Wiring enigma

I have not yet managed to solve my wiring issue and wondered if anyone can help. I am replacing my dining room light fitting. I have 3 cables coming out of the ceiling. One goes to the light switch; one goes to the living room light and the third is the loop. Both the cable that goes to the switch a...

Double light switch, one cable

Thanks. I think perhaps a junction box is the answer and a professional electrician to sort it out. I think there has been some fudging in the past that I can't replicate.

The yellow cables continued

It would appear that one switch wire goes from the 2 gang 1 way lightswitch to the dining room light. This was then connected to the switch wire for the living room light in a separate terminal block with everything else wired into the ceiling rose. The new light fitting is a 4 connection terminal b...

Double lightswitch

I have now managed to identify which cable in the ceiling has the switched live and therefore which yellow that is. The lightswitch itself, I actually slightly misread because it's dark! There is the one red cable that comes in to position L1 on the top and then the second red joins L1 on the top to...

Two cold radiators

The valves definitely open. I will try closing all the others and running. Thanks.

Two cold radiators

Ever since moving into my house a year and a half ago, just two of my radiators don't appear to work. The whole system had been drained prior to my moving in so we re-filled the system and bled all the radiators. The boiler is on the first floor (in the bedroom believe it or not!). The two failing r...

Double lightswitch, one switch return cable

Hi. I am installing a light fitting in my dining room which is attached to a double switch. One switch operates the dining room light and the other the lounge light. When I replaced the lounge light there was just one live switched cable in the ceiling rose and no problem arose. When I came to repla...
