hi pete

Yes is the answer but don't split the cable inside the wall. Make off the terminations inside one switch and extend using 3core and cpc cable to the second switch.

Hi Venom

yes change it, a 400w dimmer will do the trick. as you've halogen lamps the user instructions show you to use a higher rated dimmer due to the current draw thru the circuit. A lower rated dimmer will naff up real quick

Hi stillia,

I've had many a run in with door entry systems and every one i've come across has been different. I've found that ripping them out is the only sane choice.

Hi walljex, Sorry to poke my nose in but what Kbrownie is saying just incase your not sure is that; to ask those questions it sounds like you may not be a qualified sparks. Installing any electrics outside is classed as a special location under BS7671 and building regs. For you to carry out any work...

I'm sorry to ask you again but it may help us to help you if you can identify the difference in the terminology. wires are the actual conductors and cables are formed from groups of conductors. So far all i've managed to figure out from you is that you have a single gang switch downstairs and a doub...

I think you may find that if the power points are all in red you will need a sparky to sort things out, however, if the lighting seems to be all in red apart from the pendants in the ceiling this is quite normal and it's because the installation is more than likely to have metal earthed conduit and ...

hi PVS ... sounds like you've got a two-way light switch, from the upstairs lighting circuit. What interests me the most is that the MCB and the RCD is tripped at the same time.. The MCB give overload protection and on a 6amp circuit this is 30 amps and the RCD gives earth fault protection. the MCB ...

I would read the legislation as this: Part-p is a building regulation and as long as all work is carried out according to the building regs, and you inform the local authority that work is being undertaken, and to what extent, they will be more than happy to oversee the work being done. This means b...

[quote="mephistico"]Bear in mind also that the bonding may be undersized to current regs & a test/inspection is probably due. With an older installation there is no need to comple with 17th edition regulations. You should concentrate on getting it up to 16th edition (split load board, ...

b4 removing anything switch off the timer and use a volt stick to pick up the current flow in the supply cable .. use this method rather than mucking around with 2nd guessing manufacturers instructions. then isolate the circuit and crack on.
