If its an old system it probably needs a powerflush or at least taking the rads off and flushing through individually. They are more than likely sludged up.

Im interested, im an engineer and have been looking at entering a bpec course in ground source heat pump installation (about £400) and a solar one as well. Whats your experiences? Do you think its worth getting certified? Very interested in renewables just not sure if there is enough of a market for...

Hi mate, there should be a lockshield gate valve on the coil coming out of your cylinder usually at the bottom. This should only be opened about a quarter. Sounds like yours may be fully open because when you have both CH and HW on the water will be taking the quickest route back to the boiler there...
