Hi Heatherlalor

Could you confirm is this a socket that you plug into or is it a switch that switches a light on or off? You refer to both in your question so a bit confusing!

Hi Corrado, What you are suggesting is almost right but you will need to install TWO 30A junction boxes not ONE. You must keep the 2 legs of the ring main seperate until they connect together at the socket. I'm wondering why you cant incorporate what you intend to spur off this socket into the ring!...

You'll probably find the one black wire at the porch light is a neutral and the other black wire is a switched live which should have red or brown sleeving or tape on it to indicate it is a live and not a neutral. Connect your light fitting to these 2 cables and make sure the 2 reds are connected to...

Could be loose connections within light fitting or bad connection with lamps within lampholders.

I'd advise you get it checked out by competent person.

Very common problem.
Look at the projects section of this site Re changing a light fitting.
There you'll find diagrams which explain wiring configuration.

The earth wires attached to the metal fascias are to earth the exposed metalwork on the metal fittings so if you are replacing with plastic are no longer required. However in the case of the light switch the earth wire should be "parked" ie terminated into the earth terminal of the back bo...

First obvious question to ask is - have you unplugged ALL appliances from this circuit? There may be other things connected to the circuit that may be affecting RCD that you may have overlooked like central heating spur, outside flood lighting, garage lighting could be spurred off or even the feed t...

Lighting plugged into a 13 amp socket is fine. Connect the lights together with cable or flex, then add a piece of 3 core flex to the last light from the connector block and add a 13 amp plug top to other end. Reduce the size of the fuse in the plug top to 5 or 3 amp and simply plug it in. Providing...

Taking down one light fitting has in effect broken the electrical feed to the rest of the lights on that circuit. Yes if you replace the light fitting and connect it up exactly as it was all other lights should then work, but remember to switch off at the fuseboard first!!

Hi Stuart Usually kitchen wall cupboards are fitted with cornice around the top and pelmet around the bottom to finish them off. If yours is the same then the pelmet should be around 2-3inches deep giving plenty of room to hide cables without drilling into interior of cupboards. Transformer should s...

Hi roberto I'm confused as well.
the cooker switch was off when i took the switch out...it went bang.
Which switch do you mean was off? Do you mean the cooker switch itself or the main switch at the fuseboard(I'm assuming its not a circuit breaker as you go on to say its protected by ...
