It is protected by RCD, but only 1.

The long and short of it is, it is best to change now! Am I right???

If not, how long can I expect before it is a necessity to change. ( ie how long before it is mandatory for 17th boxes on new and old installations?)

New Fuse box

I am having some extra bits and pieces done elctrics wise, some extra rings etc. Is it worth changing from a 16th ed box to 17th whilst the work is being done????

How long before it will be compulsary to have 17th ed box???

Just trying to work out whether best to do it now or later on.

Is it not possible to disconnect at shower head and at mixer and replace completely with plastic pipe ( flexible ) and leave the old piece of copper pipe in there? Alternatively, do as you described by cutting out ( which is going to be time consuming and most likely to break your tiles) Cut out ver...

Google Accelerator Mortgage.

Advertised as a self build/ renovation/ conversion mortage. Stage payments are also in advance rather than after each stage.

Never used but sounds like a good mortgage

Thanks for the info. I must actually stand corrected as the fuse is a 20 mcb NOT 32mcb as previously stated. He looked at the wrong circuit. Most of his electrics are in need of an update. Nothing been done for 10 years +. According to his report, this circuit is on 20mcb on 2.5mm cable. Is this cor...

Right, I have spoken to him again. The fault has come up on an inspection report. The system is a 3 phase to main D/B then from there goes out to 7 other D/B's ( in single phase, small hotel ) It says on report phase to phase fault on circuit 10 D/B 1 ( furthest away from main D/B.) On closer look th...

Would also in future consider using 9.5mm plasterboard on the ceilings, will help resolve any issues with screws/nails pulling through as its a much lighter board.#

Hardibacker is a good alternative to aquapanel as well.

You could also use a hacksaw, but you will need a lot of elbow grease.

Also if you are going for the above option shop around as for just this application the above mentioned tool would be very expensive ( however it is a top quality item)

this is from same supplier but much cheaper!

Doubling up on your floor/ceiling joists( bolting another timber beam to existing joists) and putting 'noggins' between these will significantly inprove the strength of your floor. Any joins will need to be done on any internal supporting walls avaiable. However, as amount of loading is not mentione...

A proper plasterer can repair lath and plaster ceilings. You could have it repaired then skim the whole ceiling which will be approx 2-4mm in depth.

Suggest you get some quotes but make sure you request it repaired and not a new ceiling.

I agree, however on replacement, if the state of the walls allow, dot and dab plasterboard onto the walls then skim, much quicker and better finish acheivable.

In this instance I would D&D Hardibacker or aquapanel onto the walls, weights and skimming would not be an issue then, or sand & cement render tiled straight onto it. Would also be much quicker.

There is a proper product to do this job. Hardibacker board, which is available from most good merchants. A little bit like asbestos sheets ( but isn't asbestos) comes in a range of thicknesses and is waterproof unlike plasterboard. Plasterboard can be used to do the job, but would seriously recomen...
