How can I Remove a Rusty, Cammed-out Screw?

Hi,
I want to replace the waste-trap on my bath (due to a leak). The screw holding the metal cover that fits into the plug-hole in the bath is very rusty and has 'cammed-out'. Consequently, I am having difficulty getting the thing out. Anyone got any ideas how I can get this screw out? Thanks,
Dave.

How can I remove a 'white spirits' stain on white wallpaper

Hi, I have a stain (made by 'white spirits') on newly-decorated white wallpaper (ordinary paper, nothing fancy). Its appearance is like a water mark. I have sponged it with water on its own but this had no effect. I then tried dowsing it with bleach and this also failed to remove it. Does anyone kno...

Smooth Over Coverings

Has anyone any experience of using Ronseal 'Smooth Over and Repair'? I have read very mixed reports about it so far. Before shelling out on it I need to know whether it is easy to get a smooth finish on a wall without too much sanding down or even without any sanding down afterwards (I don't like th...

Leaks from neck of drinking water tap

I have a pair of ‘TAPMATE’ Galaxy Lever Kitchen High Neck Taps (manufactured by the Masco Plumbing Group which I understand includes Bristan). There is a leak from the neck on one of the taps when the lever is in an open position. The leak comes from 2 areas i.e. from the ‘gap’ in the neck immediate...

REMOVAL OF A LOAD BEARING WALL AND REPLACEMENT WITH A RSJ

CAN ANYONE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION REGARDING THE MINIMUM LEGAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS THAT SHOULD, OR MUST, BE MET AS REGARDS 'SUPPORTING PIERS' REQUIRED TO HOLD UP A NEW RSJ WHICH HAS BEEN PUT IN PLACE TO REPLACE AN EXISTING INTERNAL LOAD-BEARING WALL? THE RSJ IS ABOUT 4...

DOUBLE CHECK VALVES

Hi, Thanks for your reply. From what I can recall, the books I read did recommend check valves specifically on the toilets although, as this was some years ago, I cannot recall exactly what books they were. In any event I will remove the valves and see how it goes. Thanks for your further considerat...

NOISY DOUBLE CHECK VALVE

Hi, Thanks for your reply. The 'double check valve' shown in your first link is what are fitted to both W.C.'s. I also have service valves fitted on both W.C.'s as well. The reason I fitted the double check valves is because I had previously read in a number of places that they were required for toi...

NOISY "DOUBLE SERVICE CHECK VALVES" NEAR TOILETS

The situation involves 2 'low-level' WC toilet cisterns, one upstairs and one on the groundfloor of a domestic residence. The upstairs WC has had a "double service check valve" fitted to the copper pipe just before it enters the cistern ever since it was fitted in 2005 and there have never...

PILOT FLAME SUPERVISION SYSTEM

To htg engineer, Thanks for your reply. - You are correct about the pilot flame lifting off the thermocouple as the control stting is increased, hence the complete extinguishing of the fire. - I have previously tried cleaning the pilot. - I don't know how to identify the "sensing tube" but...

GAS FIRE FLAME SUPERVISION AND MONITORING SYSTEM

Hi, I have a Black Beauty Radiant Gas Fire (Model 340) purchased and fitted new in October 2004, although it has probably been used for less than 12 months since then. The problem appears to be that as the 'control knob' is moved from IGNITION setting 1 to setting 2 there is a 'snap' sound (at the g...
