Hi, I would do similar but instead of putting just the oil based undercoat on the wall I usually mix equal quantities of oil based gloss and undercoat together and paint this on. I find that having the gloss in with the undercoat it covers better. Then if It is only a couple of patches I would just ...

Hi mitchell, now that JRS has posted and allowed me to see the pics, I couldn't work out how to see them. I think that they need to be raked out properly first. From the pics it looks like you have just put filler onto the cracks and painted on top of it. You need to remove all the old filler, rake ...

Hi dave, from what you have written it doesn't sound like you used any undercoat before putting the gloss on. Gloss on its own will not cover up the yellow and it will bleed through again within a couple of weeks if not sooner. I would wash it all down with some sugar soap first to get rid of anythi...

Hi diane, I would say not really. Polystyrene can be emulsioned but putting anything else on it can be dangerous, ie fire hazard. A lot of these metalic paints are solvent based and if you tried to put that on the coving, it would just melt. Probably your best bet would be to go to a mixing centre l...

Hi, sorry but the best way to get a decent look would be to take it all off and start again making sure you remove all the little bits as well. You can paint the lining paper as much as you like but you will probably still see the patches. Sorry probably not what you wanted to hear but if you want g...

Hi, you should have put a mist coat on first as you now know. It is possible that the paint you have put on has not adhered properly to the ceiling and this will cause it to peel or bubble in places when you put on another coat. Not a lot you can do about it unless you want to see if it scrapes off ...

Hi jaynee, you should not have put size on the walls unless you were going to wallpaper. What you need to do now is to wash all of it off and make sure you get as much off as possible. Otherwise you will have problems with the paint bubbling and not sticking properly. What you should have done is to...

Hi, as JRS says try reposting in flooring section, but if you have got damp coming up through floor then it will be more than a coat of damp proof paint it will need. I would get a builder in to have a look at it as it can't be healthy sleeping in a room that has got damp. They could on the other ha...

What was it that came off, the new paint or did it take the old stuff off as well. If it is the new paint then you will need to water it down a bit before using as like you say it is probably drying too quickly. If it's the old stuff then it could be that a mist coat was not put on the walls before ...

Hi mel, you would be better off posting this as a new thread then you will get answers that relate to your post alone. Just copy and paste your post into a new one. When you go to furum index just look close to the top of the page on the lefthand side and click new thread.

Hi cityred, the simple answer is yes. A mist coat is needed on all new plaster otherwise the emulsion will dry out to quickly and you will get problems with it peeling or bubbling.

Hi, to start with don't listen to your girlfriend, you should never overlap the edges of wallpaper as it will cause the problems you are now having with it. As for putting it right, well you will never get it to look right, because of the overlap it will always show. You could try using overlap adhe...

I personally don't think I would buy it as I don't find any problem with doing as JRS says. I just run a putty knife around the skin and lift it off. I usually decant it into a smaller container too using a pair of Oh's old stockings to get any tiny bits out. I think that if there was something that...

Hi, whether you use oil or waterbased paint the preparation should be the same. Give them a good sanding if needed and clean any grease or dirt off. Try this link for the order to paint them. It may not be exactly the same panel door as you have but it will give you an idea. Before giving them the t...

Hi, if you prepare the doors properly it should not make any difference if you use water or oil based paint. One way to tell if it's oil based is to burn a bit of it off. Oil based paint bubbles off quite easily but waterbased is a lot harder to get off.
