Thanks

1 foot down inside - damp earth.
2 foot down inside - mud against the outside wall in one place, below any DPC.

Possibly a cracked drain outside.

Inside at least now there is no direct path for that to spread to the other walls higher up. Just (:?) need to build a suspended floor now.

Depends on the structure holding the rest of the roof up that you are maybe going to cut away. Also depends if you already have a proper floor, stairs, fire escape to justify the dormer to the building regs people I would think. 7-10,000 for a full width dormer, everything else already in place? or ...

Earth floor

Having found damp on internal walls in the rear of my house, I noticed it was only on walls around the concrete floor area not in the boarded part. Turns out the concrete is a mere half inch thick, directly under which is damp earth up against the damp internal walls - and that is level with the dam...

Looking at doing this in all rooms as renovating the whole house. I can see the use for a net on the ground floor as there is space of 3' under the joists, in the 1st floor there is ceiling so not much point in a net there I think. My question would be is what insulation? The joists are only 4.5&quo...

old loft conversion

Similar to the original, I have just bought a house with a very old loft conversion, though it has had planning permission documented. I want to update with a newer staircase, bathroom, and change the front windows. But all the builders I ask declare it has to be ripped out and started from scratch ...

Any news on what happened? Interested as I completed on a house just recently where the Surveyor also said there were signs of damp and we should get a specialist survey done (well 7 different specialist surveys in total actually). In my case the gutters were quite clearly blocked & broken so wh...

Old loft conversion & Builing regs

There is an OLD loft conversion (c.1985) with front and back dormers on my house. It badly needs updating and I wished to change part of the front roof in doing that. All the loft companies I ask tho just say it doesn't meet modern building regs and will need stripping completely and starting again....
