i had this problem , the divertor valve itself is stuck , i got a service kit and fitted it and it run fine the rod gets caked in scale and sticks , you have to clean up (greese the rod with silicone greese) and replace all the kit parts and it runs perfectly after that

you dont need to strip the paint , infact the heat gun is really used to strip paint from timber , just mist coat the wall with a cheap white matt paint , this will cover the colour already on the wall , as leaving the paint on will act a s a sealent , and also show up any holes or cracks that can t...

most internal walls made of block and dont contain rods , the wires for lighting SHOULD run down the wall vertically but as you have said getting s tud detector is a great and very safe idea , who knows how some one could have bodged the wiring ?? so do that and you should be ok

you dont need a 50mm pug , you drill the hole to the depth required then insert the plug , and with the screw inserted gently tap it all the way in , the plug should always be in the brick and not the plaster or thermal borard

probably used the wrong thread screw for the readdy drive , you may be lucky and turning the reddy drive itself out , if not i have just pulled the things off the wall and conceeded that i will have to do more patching then i originally wanted to

this may well be the problem as your back wall maybe south facing
scrape the cracks out and fill , some kind of sealer on the render is good also

the best way to do this would be to fix a batten to the cieling , maybe with a nice edge painted , and then fix to this , fixing it secruely to the joists

i think the problem is that you may need to put a tiny bit more effort into the screw to push it passed the spike , this is a typical problem when first using reddy drive fixings if you notice at the spike end there is a hole which the screw can then force its way through

get yourself a non contact tester , safety first , im thinking it sounds like you have two fuses for every cct , this sounds like you have fused neutrals which suggests this is in urgent need of a rewire !
