Do I need a non return valve for my new bathroom sink?

I am about to replace the sink in my bathroom. The new sink has a mixer tap, which is supplied by secondary cold water (from the loft tank), and hot water from out hot water cylinder.
Will either supply pipe require a non-return valve ?

Uneven joists

I am replacing some chipboard flooring in my bathroom as the old boards (under the bath) have deteriorated. Having removed the old boards, I find that one joist is slightly lower than its neighbours. The new flooring panels therefore dip a bit where I attach them to this joist. I can live with this,...

Limiting the damage

Is there any reason why I shouldn't turn off the water supply to the entire house (at the main stopcock) before going away on holiday? This would surely limit the damage done if a plumbing problem occurs while I am away.

pipework supplying outside tap

Is it worth lagging the (very short) section of exposed pipework that leads up to the tap on my outside wall ? I wonder whether it could get cold enough in Winter to freeze (and burst).
