Change of plan, rather than buy a new RCD, we have tried fitting a supression unit out of an old washing machine, this seems to have done the trick and everything is working fine now! Thanks for everyones help and suggestions.

I feel that it is best to still use the cooker switch and cut the plugs off, but if you do this, you will need to put a fused spur in between the juction box going to the cooker switch and the actual appliences, this then protects the flex on the hob and the flex on the cooker.

As for chopping the plugs off and wiring them in, I shouldn't imagine that this is a problem, because it is protected by the MCB, but I can't be sure, so I wouldn't do that just yet, until someone knows whether you can, but I know for sure that the cooked switch and spare socket is there so that peo...
