Hi T.E and ericmark and anyone who read this post, today (Tuesday) i put the low energy lamp back into original lamp holder on the 3 way circuit. So far so good, the lamp has been working fine, can only assume the circuitry within the lamp had a gremlin. Many thanks for the input Remelad

Hi T.E i can see what you are saying, but would you not think that after a couple of bright flashes this would of exhausted any capacitance. The flashes were as bright as a kitchen type flourecent light just being turned on. You know the type, the ones that use a starter. The light had been switched...

Hi ericmark, thanks for taking the time to try and help. the light works on normal switches. to add a little more info, the intermediate switch is on the end of the switching circuit rather than in the middle. How ever as i said earlier this works okay with a filament lamp. The low energy lamp has b...

So i decided to convert my 2 way lighting and fitted an intermediate switch, this has worked fine for the past 10 years until now. Tonight i replaced a blown 100w lamp for a low energy lamp w...

Hi ericmark, thanks for your quick reply, so are we saying even though its not the responsibility of the supply company to provide an earth, if it's TN-C-S or TN-S they will supply said earth. I have rang EDF supply and have found them very hard work, i will ring them again I see you sleep about as ...

Earth at distibution cable

Hi All, in an earlier post i asked about an earth that was shared with the neutral within the consumer unit. I have since discovered a wire about 1 inch that is soldered to the main intake cable,as this is not a long enough in length to do anything with i was going to use an earth clamp BS951 and cl...

Thanks very much ericmark and sparks for your input. I did wonder if this could be induced emf, as i have come across this before on a cable that was disconnected both ends. Sometimes novices like me, like clarification from guys like yourselves that have been in the trade for some time, and have co...

Minute spark on earth block in c.u

Hi all, changed a light fitting today, when i went to the consumer unit to isolate the circuit i noticed that the earth to a separate shower c.u had become detached from the earth block. I reconnected the earth and thought i would have a look inside the main c.u,i noticed a cpc had no sleeve on it so...

Neutral in consumer unit also used as an earth

Please can anyone advise me on this. I have got a consumer unit to change and found that there is no earth as such. Inside the c/u a wire has been strapped from the neutral block to the earth block. I know TN-C-S is a similar format, however the neutral and earth are connected at the distributor's cu...

Thanxs to you blakey and sparx for your answers, think i will have to join NIC-EIC, as i'm not fully qualified electrician. Done a part p course at college which was a year long, not one of these 5 minute wonder courses and think Napit will only endorse part p for qualified electricians. Regards Rem...

Hi brigzie i think you will find that sparx is right. If you do this work yourself you have to notify your local building control, which will cost you from £175,as the kitchen is now classed as a special location. The reason behind the cost is they will send out an electrician to inspect your work....
