The old grudfos pumps are a slightly differant design to the new ones. I dont think the heads are interchangable. Although the length should be the same, so a new complete grundfos pump should fit between your old pump valves easily. You should not have to alter any pipework to get it to fit. And ye...

No safety catch on the filling loop. Both "toggles" should be aligned to be inline with pipework.

I have worked on both, lots!

Both are very good boilers, both with varying faults. I agree with htg though, the vaillent is far easier to work on, should anything go wrong with it!
