Re: Damp on internal walls

Hi, It is always very difficult to diagnose damp problems from a post. However, I have seen rising damp on several occasions where a chemical injection dpc has been installed, the plaster hacked off and replaced up to 1m and then after a while a line of damp appears above the replaced plaster. This ...

Re: Shower Water Trap Problem - Anti Vac?

Dear Anthony, My understanding is that an anti vac trap only prevents to the trap being pulled on the trap that it is fitted to. However, perhaps you could google anti vac trap, find a manufacturer and ask their tech dept. I've always found most manufacturers tech depts to be very helpful. Good luck...

Re: Shower Water Trap Problem - Anti Vac?

Anthony, a few thoughts; Is it both basins that cause the trap to be pulled out? Shower trap will be very shallow and difficult to replace /alter. Anti vac traps to the whb's will only prevent the traps to those basins being pulled. Fitting an anti vac trap to the shower will stop this being pulled....

Re: Lathe and Plaster Ceiling/quarry tiled floor

If the lathe and plaster ceiling is in good condition then it's probably best to leave in place and board over. This would usually be a layer of chicken wire nailed through to the joists and then plasterboard fixed over. The chicken wire is to take the weight of any lathe and plaster if it cracks an...

Re: Drain insurance

I do not see why not particularly if the trees belong to a neighbouring property. Check your policy and speak to the insurance company. The only issues I have heard about with drains are pitch fibre pipes which tend to delaminate from inside and deform with load over time, although I beleive that th...

Re: Triiso Super 10

Leopo If you have not already made a regs application then use an approved inspector. They want your business so are much more helpful and much more flexible. Most accept tri iso. Please note that there has been a recent determination on the dclg site throwing out manufacturers claims about multi fo...

Re: Extending a dormer-style house ?

It's a fairly straightforward thing to do but will probably require a structural engineers input. The dormer section which sticks out will have a roof that needs to be supported at the base of the walls and where the roof joins with the main roof pitch.

Find an architect and discuss.

Re: Brickwork Movement

I would guess that the single skin extension is only on a slab foundation and so is moving / subsiding. Straps would only cause the brickwork to crack further along.

I do not think that you have much option but to consider underpinning. Is it worth consulting your insurance?

hth, good luck

Foundations, traditional strip would be min 1m deep excavation, 450 mm min width, 750 mm depth of concrete. Does depend on ground conditions. Oversite - 150 mm well compacted hardcore, (25 mm sand blinding, 1200 guage dpm if you want one), 100 mm concrete with one layer A142 reinforcing mesh. Altern...
