Thank you very, very, very much for this... I have concluded, I think, that the floorboards are too knackered to be able to do the repairs myself... But the info on filling is immensely helpful - and I wonder whether I might be able to get the man just to quote for the repairs. Thank you so much for...

Thanks for this. A man came about a quote yesterday - I think I'm reaching the conclusion that the state of the boards means that it would be very difficult to do myself. His initial quote was about £2K but he'll need to put the numbers together properly, so it may be more than this. However, he sa...

Central heating: funny noises in the rain

Hello there The flue of my new gas condensing combi boiler makes noises in therain; it sounds like rain is getting in. At the same time, I noticed today that water was gurgling up through the sink plug hole (I'm assuming the two things were related - it may simply have been that the drains were bein...

Wet rot - best way to treat?

I've found wet rot in my bathroom floorboards. I've been told that the best and easiest way to get rid of it is simply by treating with a chemical which will need to be applied 3 times, but will restore the timber. Is this true, and is it really the best way to sort it? My own inclination is to repl...
