Hi, I wonder if someone can help. I noticed a small discolouration on the kitchen ceiling (damp) directly below the airing cupboard and water tank. Around the incoming cold pipe was a small (2 nches square) wet patch on the floor... but no obvious leak but there was condensation on the cold pipes / ...

Cracks in paint? Can anyone hlep please?

Hi, I hope someone can help. I painted my downstairs toilet and have small cracks all over an area of about 2 foot square. Originally I painted a white Dulux under coat before putting on some B&Q bathroom paint. The paint finish was good but the wall surface was uneven - so I did a bit of sandin...

Thanks Sparx. Excuse my ignorance here - but boilers are a black art to me. You mention it's better to leave it on all the time rather than heat from cold when needed. I assume this is because it has a thermostat inside that ensures it does burn electricity constantly throughout the day - but just h...

My girlfriend has said she was only getting hot water for 4/5 minutes and not enough to fill a bath. She had ony switched the immersion on for 20 minutes - is this the ...

How to stop my newly-painted door creaking?

Hi, I have recently painted the my hallway doors and doorframes with a Crown white 'satin' paint - waterbased. It looks fine but now, whenever I open the doors they creak or crack loudly as if the paint on the door is sticking to the paint on the doorframe. The paint is abolutely dry- I painted seve...

Thanks Sparx - now sorted with your help. One thing : it seems that previous owner / electrician had replaced the normal switch cable with 3 core and earth - the extra blue wire at the ceiling rose threw me. It appears they had installed an outside light and hadn't got a neutral connection so linked...

A new light fitting in a two way switched light -help please

Hi, I am trying to put a new light fitting into the hallway at home. The hall swirtches on down / upstairs. I can see the two lighting feeding and the switch wires.
