How do I disconnect / remove a burglar alarm

Hi people, We have a Gardtec 300 alarm system that's never worked properly and we didn't use even was it was vaguely working. How do I go about disconnecting & removing this? I don't want to start taking it to bits only for the siren to start sounding and me be unable to shut it down again 'cos ...

Attaching a washing line to a concrete fence post

I'd like to try and attach a washing line to a concrete fence post in my back garden, but I'm unsure whether it'll take the weight / stress. I'm guessing just the line itself should pose no problem, but when it's laden down with wet washing, there'll obviously be a fair bit of weight pulling on the ...

Mould spots on bathroom sealant?

We had a new bathroom fitted recently (Spring '08) and we're starting to see evidence of mould on the bath sealant already. They're only small spots at present, but it's bally annoying! We're fairly good at wiping down after using the bath/shower, but obviously it's not possible to avoid the sealant...

3 inputs into 2 SCART sockets

Hope someone can help me with this, it should be really simple, but it's got me beat. I currently have 3 devices feeding into my telly, a Pioneer DVD/HDD recorder/player, a cable TV decoder box & the new addition, a surround sound system. However, there's only 2 SCART sockets on the back of the ...

Fastening a window blind onto a steel lintel

I'm trying to fit a blind to the underside of a window aperture, drilling upwards into the wall to hang a blackout blind.
I've hit an immoveable object which, after a bit of headscratching, I'm guessing must be the steel lintel.

Is it feasible / sensible to try & hang the blind like this?

I don't suppose you got any replies via PM did you?
I'm just trying to figure out how to do the same thing and was kinda hoping someone on the forum would be able to point me in the right direction.

I think I've got this sorted now - more by trial & error, but your pointers were a big help. One of the reds into the live of the new light fitting & the other 3, including the permanently live wire, into a separate connector block. Everything works again anyway, so fingers crossed it's righ...

My mistake, I told you I was a novice!! It's 4 reds, 2 blacks & 2 greens - makes a bit more sense, even to me. My wonderful new testing gizmo tells me one of the reds is live all the time & when the light switch is flipped, all the reds are live but none of the others (I think). Does this ma...

Changing ceiling rose

I'm trying to change a ceiling rose for a different light fitting & could do with some advice. I've looked thru' the Projects, but it's a bit technical for me, I could with simple "Janet & John" instructions! The new light fitting has a 4-block connector & the fitting instructi...
