Many thanks for the information. I took the valve out and stripped it. Full of silt, so I soaked it in de-scaler, re-assembled, re-filled, and no more problems.

Like you say, the enamel is there to stop heat an moisture damage. I would not let him even try to repair it. The oven is new, his son wrecked it, so you want a new one. Enamel is very difficult to repair, and could not be done in your kitchen.
Sounds more like the condensor is playing up. Have you tried rocking the fridge from side to side, this sometimes works.
