My advice would be to try to get some hands on work experience with a small plumbing company. Offer to work a couple of days a week for nothing. Do this for a few weeks and prove that you are competant and willing to learn. I did this and got taken on full time after about 2 months. If they arent wi...

Hi, You're going to want to get a pair of waterpump pliers on the backnut. You will probably get another couple of good turns on it. It will very likely leak how it is. As far as the overflow is concerned. Yes it is normal to not have an external overflow. I think they've pretty much done away with ...

If you've got a Combi boiler then piping up this way will be pointless as it's all pressurised anyway. If you've got a normal gravity system then the water will flow through the radiator slightly better creating a better spread of heat, but the benifit of this in my opinion is outweighed by how terr...

The pipe coming from the top of the cylinder is the hot distribution. It will split with a vent going up to the cold tank. This vent pipe will be the one dispelling the boiling water if it overheats. The bottom feed with shut off is the cold feed to the cylinder from the cold tank. The other 2 pipes...

You can vent the pump by unscrewwing the flat head screw on the front of the pump until water gets out.

Hot water outside tap

Is connecting into the hot water supply to create an outside tap against any Water Regs etc?

Ive been thinking this would be useful for me to save me walking through the house with a full bucket when washing the car.

As long as i put a check valve on i cant really see the problem with doing it.

Concrete is pretty easy to break up with the right tool. Ive been doing it today with a normal hammer drill with rotary stop to move radiator pipes. Alternativly a Kango isnt that expensive to hire. I suspect most plumbers will avoid it due to the hassle of it and the potential cost of an entire new...

As you're going to be replacing the radiators a powerflush would be a waste of time as you'll be cleaning the rads only to throw them away. When you put the new radiators on, introduce a chemical cleaner into the system and run the heating for a few hours. Then drain down. This should clean the pipe...

Hi another point to add is to open the air vents on the top of the rads when draining the heating circuit otherwise not all the water will drain and it might go everywhere when you cut the pipes. Close the vents before you refill, then go round each radiator and bleed the air out. Fill heating loop ...
