Re: Toilet leaking from where cistrrn sits on pan when flushed

Usually its the "do-nut" ring between the cistern and the pan. On some close couples its the cistern fixing bolts.

ither way the only thing to do is to "break" the two parts of the WC and clean and replace do-nut (with a rubber one) and equally tighten bolts.

Re: Wet Floor Under Bathroom Shower Tray and Mould - Solutions Needed for Repair

Why not post pictures?

What about any tiles on the shower walls or plumbing in the walls?

Caulking between the shower tray and the tile often allows leaks especially when someone is stood in the shower base or tray.

Re: Foul Stench from Somewhere in new Bathroom but no Leak?

Check the WC pan spigot connector for the faintest of leaks.

Check how the basin and bath waste connects to the soil pipe.

Re: Help with Identifying Penetrating or Rising Damp

Nine out of ten that the ccause of your damp is an unventilated and unswept chimney flue or flues. I notice that you dont have a vent in the blocked off fireplace. You will have to open the fireplace and have the chimney thoroughly swept and vented top and bottom. Also have the chimney stack on the ...

Re: Damp Concrete Sub Floor Solution Possible Membrane Fix?

The problem seems to be the hillside location of the house - not much you can do about that.

Is there a membrane below the bedroom solid floor?

Sealing the floor is causing the surface to blow off, the vinyl tiles allowed evaporation - perhaps live with a polished concrete floor and some rugs?

Re: Render over Damp Proof Course in Pre WW2 Bungalow

The waterproof additive is mixed in the water of the first coat.

You dont "seal" DPC's with mastic.

Blown with what kind of cav insulation?

Cav insulation can cause endless damp difficulties - do you actually have any interior damp signs?

Re: Condensation in a Fiited Wardrobe Cavity in Ground Floor Apartment?

Short answer is you will have to remove the fitted wardrobe - its a must.

After examining the walls behind the wardrobe & the floor & the ceiling you could report back here on your findings.

Is this a cavity wall with or without cav insulation?

Is it a rendered wall?

Re: Damp Proof course and notes made in survey

What an alarmist & illogical report from a supposed surveyor. I take it that this report was written by a RICS surveyor (from the Building Society)? They sound like the local drama queen. The plinth itself will be bridging the DPC. DPC's virtually never fail - when interior damp is detected its ...

Re: Black Mould In Damp Kitchen After Leaking Macerator - How To Remove?

Jess, When you say macerator do you mean what i would call a Garbage Disposal? If the disposal has been leaking for some time its possible that the sink cabinet has been affected by fungal damage. Basements are notoriously difficult to make damp free, and i should imagine that the polystyrene is, li...

Re: How To Stop Toilet Seat Slipping

Pumping some construction or silicone adhesive down the seat bolt holes ( blanket the bolts and fill the holes ) then nipping up the bolts and leaving to set, will sometimes do the trick.

Beware that it will be difficult to remove the bolts at some future date.

Dont inject anything. And dont do anything else until you know the cause of whats happening - and where it's happening. If you go back and search some of the old posts you will find lots of useful information about similar issues. They will help you to provide more details ( & pics please) so th...

Re: Damp Patch In Garage With White Fluffy Deposits That Has Never Dried Out

If this is a "damp patch" then PVA will not work because it is soluble ie. it will dissolve in, or on, moisture, creating a slightly more messy situation. I'm not sure what a coating of PVA would be meant to do anyway? Why not wipe off the "fluffy deposits" with a weak solution o...

Re: Venting Plasterboard Internal Wall After Insulation Now Causing Damp Spots

You have an internal wall thats been dot & dabbed on both sides of the wall and is now showing "damp" spots at the dab locations? Unfortunately, if there is damp in that wall then the moisture and salts will penetrate through the fixing dabs no matter how much ventilation is introduced...

Re: ACO Drain Laid Against Wall But Above Damp Proof Course

OP, in your first post you mention "digging out" the patio but next post you seem to say there's nothing to be done with the patio? Which is it? What you propose ref drains and grates will probably take as much time and effort as dropping the ground level & relaying your patio to slope...
