Re: What Roof Slates are These on our Council House

If anyone can help answer please, it's a bit urgent! Supposed to be moving soon. Welsh brickie - do you mean you think it's just standard slate? They look a bit different at the edges. If it is cement asbestos slate how much extra cost would be involved for a new roof?

Re: What Roof Slates are These on our Council House

I meant what do you think they are made of by looking please? I thought at first they would be real slate but someone has suggested they could be concrete asbestos slates and not the real thing. As the roof is 80 years old it might make a difference as to when I need to think about re-doing it and h...

How to Fix Mesh to MDF to Make Lid for Pet Cage

Sorry if that sounds a bit noddy but what is the best way to fix mesh to mdf? I've heard that staple guns don't do so well on the hardness of mdf. It's basically a 100 x 50cm piece of mdf with slots in and I want to mesh the whole area to make the ventilation slots smaller - it's the lid of a pet ca...

Costing for New Roof and Timbers for Property in Conservation Area

This is our second attempt to buy a house having pulled out of one that was in a flood risk zone. We've now found one that isn't in a flood risk zone, are at our maximum budget with the purchase price, and know it needs a new roof (it is dipping in places). It's in a conservation area and has a ston...

Old house with damp - what are the best options for solving damp issues?

Hello. I am going round in circles with options for work that needs doing on an old house we are buying. It has stone walls about 2.5 feet thick, is about 200 years old, quite small, detached. Outside it looks very nice with whitewash but surveyor says render is concrete and has to come off. Downsta...
