Re: How to Open That Lockshield Valve to Cure Cold Radiator

Hello
That looks like a normal lock shield valve ,minus its plastic cap. The threads are for a screw to hold the cap on.
I use a 6 mm spanner to open the valve, or a small adjustable wrench. If it is tight squirt a bit of WD 40 down the valve and wait a bit. Frees off stubborn TRVs in the past for me.

Microbore problems

To any one reading this old thread. Eventually, I took off the rad , after draining system, and blew compressed air up the return microbore pipe! This resulted in a gurgling sound, followed by a fountain of blackish water some2 to 3 feet high emerging from the return pipe. I had suitable buckets rea...

I have a microbore system with 12 rads and a big old fashioned floor 90,000BTU boiler ( great). I have had problems with the furthest away rad not getting full heat. Obviosly flush and check for sludge etc. But then I just drain water out of farthest rad - with boiler on and pump running- until the ...

phew- rather a tallorder. But firstly, is the boiler up to roducing the heat required?. Are the pipes of sufficient bore to carry the heat to where it is required? Then is the pump up tp overcoming the resistence. You need to do calculations for this , based on heat losses, pipe losses, resistence o...

You need to keep killing them until the whole family is dead. they are not solitary animals. Everyone is around 9 metres from a rat - on average, so need to be wary and leave no food out for them at all. They only come to houses for food. All cavities should be closed at roof level when the property...

you can have a pull switch for a fan heater in a bathroom, there are fan heaters made for bathroom installations , they are installed on a wall, high up of course, I had one fitted to my last house. This was fine. No sockets are allowed of course, or any other dangerous fittings that a person could ...

I have a wood burner, been running this one for 6 years, but I am 60 and have experience of these from many years ago. The best wood of all is ash, superb ,also fine are oak , beech and, birch. But most wood is fine in a wood burner. Alder is the most useless, and will smoulder. Lime will be fine. Bu...

Thanks, I will try higher pump setting.
The problem is that the pipes are buried in the walls in the plaster, which would make quite a job re piping- unless I moved it elsewhere.
I will try the water test too.
Thanks

microbore- one rad very cool

Hello There are so many problems that can arise, perhaps someone has met this one. I have a gravity system -old boiler Ideal Standard 80K BTU with micro bore, pumped, two manifolds, 11 rads of differing sizes. But one in the study 'stopped' getting warm some time ago. The sytem seemed well balanced ...
