Re: Options and advice for updating my old conservatory

Ok for now I have decided to keep the roof in place, as its water tight and just replace the windows and doors for UPVC. I have had a few installer quotes, the cheapest being £8k. I am now thinking of getting supply only and replacing them myself for £4k. My question now is how can I calculate/verif...

Hi my house has an old large lean to conservatory/orangery 10.5mt long by 3.2mt deep, which needs work. It has a single skin dwarf wall in good condition, as is the tiled floor. Wooden frame single glazed windows and doors which have rotted. 60mm X 140mm hard wood rafters at 780mm spacing supporting...

Upgrading Existing Conversion Insulation for Sound and Thermal Improvement

Hi my loft was converted between 1980-1990, it is cold and noisy as we are adjacent to a busy road. I'm hoping to upgrade the insulation and plaster board to improve thermal and sound qualities room by room. Re: Why was 1960's Converted Bungalow Built With Solid Walls?

Maybe I should have worded this differently. I'm assuming that cavity walls were not necessary by building control in 1960s. But the advantages of them must have been understood by then so why would soild have been chosen?
Thank you.

Why was 1960's Converted Bungalow Built With Solid Walls?

Hi I have been trying to determine the age and wall construction of our converted bungalow. After removing some cladding I have found the flank wall to be solid flemish bond which looks quite old. But a friend insists he remembers the bungalow being built it the early 1960s. Would they have used thi...

Solid Brick and Dorma Roof - Where to Start in Terms of Insulation?

Hi we are spending our first chilly winter in our dorma bungalow. The rooms upstairs are warm enough but the ground floor is difficult to heat. Can take 3 hours for 15-19deg and won't go much higher especially at ground floor level. The exterior walls are mainly solid brick, the extension is cavity ...
