Re: Roof void too small for woodworm treatment.

Hi stoneyboy Thank you for your reply, I think you are right. I was initially advised the house would need to be treated and left empty for 24 hours but the more I search the less realistic this seems. I'll just finish the jobs I've started and put it up for sale in the spring and see what offers I ...

Roof void too small for woodworm treatment.

Following a Home Report to see what is needed before marketing my house, woodworm was found in the roof timbers. I've since had a specialist survey undertaken and there is active wood worm in the roof and eaves cupboards. My house was built with the upstairs bedrooms in the roof approx 100 years ago...

Re: Plasterboard not attached to wall or fixings failed,

Hi saljia, Possibly best to determine what is behind the plasterboard. Use a small sabre saw to cut a hole in the board - taper the edges so you can stick the cutout back in place. You can then decide whether to fix into battens - if they exist - or whether you need longer screws to fix into the ma...

Plasterboard not attached to wall or fixings failed,

I'v just started to strip a bedroom wall and one wall wobbles. My house is approx 120 years old and built of solid stone, the walls were lined with plasterboard by a previous owner. There is a small possibility that insulation was put in but, I don't know. The plasterboard has been skimmed and looks...

Re: Garage base has been left open to the elements.

Hi stoneyboy, thanks for the reply. The garage side panels will drop down the side of the base to keep it water tight, the edges of the base are made from brick with the rest made from concrete. Its just that the concrete part of the base is a bit crumbly and I was hoping to somehow seal it before I...

Garage base has been left open to the elements.

My old garage was taken down before the first lockdown and a new larger brick built one with a new base was to be built. Through no fault of the builder the new garage was not built and despite trying numerous builders am going for a wooden one the same size as the old one. My problem is, although t...

Re: Stunning green wall tiles - anybody recognise them?

Assuming you have tried googling dark green brick shaped tiles or similar, there is a telephone on the Vera Taylor Design website - +‭44 ‭‭‭7841 585039 But, please remember these photo's were taken with photography lighting to give the bathroom it's best look, so the tiles may well look different un...

Re: Another woodchip query regarding plasterboard

Thank you, that's a good idea, I might have to put a few screws in where the other boards are but that's no big deal.

Film to stop people looking in?

Thanks to a new set of traffic lights people keep staring into my downstairs windows. I don't want to put nets up and am considering plantation blinds so I can still look out but nosey sods can't look in. Does anyone know if there is some kind of film that can be put onto the glass so that I can loo...

Another woodchip query regarding plasterboard

Hi, over the years I have stripped the Devil's wallpaper in different houses with no real problem (PVA & water). Am currently stripping a room which has emulsion over woodchip. No big deal normally, but I don't think this house has had it's walls stripped back for decades, the wall I stripped wa...

Re: Paint Crazy Crackled due to Gloss Repelling Matt

Hi, I had a similar, but not so bad problem and used Zinsser peel stop, followed by two coats of emulsion and it seems fine although only done about 3 or 4 weeks ago, no cracks showing at all. On the Zinsser website m you could give them a description and they will get back with advice pretty quickl...

Painting Mist Coat on to New and Old Plaster

I know when painting newly skimmed walls that I have to do a mist coat first but... some of the walls/ceilings in my house were skimmed and left unpainted for approx 1 year so are dried out. Should I still do a mist coat or can I go straight to using undiluted matt emulsion? Have done a couple of wa...
