Can I strap 40mm waste direct to wall?

Title says it all really - in the interests of saving a few mm on a very tight bathroom, is there any reason I can't strap 40mm waste pipe (say abs or pvc) direct to a plastered wall with nothing between? I would strap it down with a rubber or plastic strap band screwed into the wall. I know clips a...

Update following some investigation. Thermostat and controls seem to be working fine - heats up the water to the set temperature then turns the boiler off. No odd water connections that I can see so far - standard indirect vented system with a three port valve. TPV working fine in all three position...
