Do 1 years training
then do 2 years on your own gaining experience
then the worlds your oyster, well maybe not but youll be minted and get another job easy if you wanted to. worked well for me.
Fit a grundfos selectric 15/50 pump, cost around £60. Note which direction the pump is fitted and speed setting its at and fit the new one the same way. Depending on the pumps/valves age, the connections can sometimes be stiff/siezed, and so a hammer and wd40 may be reqd, OR a hacksaw and new union...
Im about to lay a 900*900 quadrant shower with same kind of tray. I have floorboards but i was going to lay a thin sheet of chipboard down on top of the floorboards to even out the floor before cementing down the tray. Is it ok to do this? what problems if any may i have with this?
I joined BG 4 years ago, 1year training starting on 13k. after 1.5years i was on basic of 26.5k and thats no lie. Anyway, the training is excellent(short and intense) if you can manage on poor money for the first year. Obviously its the heating side you learn but you can pick up the other stuff in y...
Put in either a mixer shower or a thermostatic. Check that your combi boiler will work with these types of shower. If you fit a better electric shower its more than likely the electric cable will need redone with a bigger one. I just put a mixer shower in off my combi boiler-works great and easy to ...
The system may need balancing, but i do not think this is why the upstairs rads are not heating. After all they still dont work with the downstairs trvs turned off. Is it a combi boiler? If not, how old is the pump? Is the bypass open too much? Boilerstat too low?
Red handle gate valve, could be either one your talking about. What kind of boiler is it. It could be as simple as upping the pump speed or the pump may need replaced. I suggest you get a decent REPAIR engineer in, not an installation monkey.
mmm, sounds like your heating engineer hasnt a clue!! Replacing radiators?????? The only need for that is if they are leaking or blocked inside-very rare. Try turng down the rads downstairs and turning up the boilerstat for starters. Also shut the bypass (red handled valve under the boiler maybe?!?!)
Dont go buying a diaphragm til youve looked inside the boiler and only corgi registered engineers can do that. the leak could be coming from any one of many parts of the boiler. Repairing a boiler such as this is not a DIY job!!!
An open flued, open vented, gravity hw system with an ancient marathon boiler!!. Just take the hit and get a 'decent' combi put in like a 'vokera linea HE'. 2k to 3k if you know any good installers. Otherwise try clearing the airlock or blockage.....for now. And i disagree with one previous post imply...
Sounds like an airlock to me, try putting the thermostat up, then see if theres any venting points at the flow/return at the cylinder, if not, try cracking open the connections at the cylinder and let some water pour out(see if you get any air). Of course, it could be a blockage but an airlock is fa...
Where i live (aberdeen) its almost impossible to get hold of a plumber. The company i work(blue van-big flame on the side) for are really short and cant find suitably qualifed engineers up here. so im considering starting up on my own but im a bit nervous about it. Any advice at all would be appreci...
Ok first of all, the plumber should have given the system a thorough flushout BEFORE fitting the new boiler. Now your new boiler will be full of sludge-not good! Demand that he flushes the system!! The plumber is correct about the plastic pipes, they are terrible and 'breathe', allowing air into the...
