Re: Sealing Around Bath That Already has Plastic Bath Seal

fill the bath half full so the weight of water opens the gap, Use a Stanley knife to cut out as much sealant as possible, you can also get silicone eater to remove the rest, and reseal. Leave the water in the bath for 24hrs for the silicone to set. Use a low modulus silicone

Re: First Time Bricklayer Needs Advice on a Garden Retaining Wall

if its on a slope its best if you step the foundation, the depth of the foundation depends on ground conditions, the foundation needs to be dug at a minimum of 300mm deep with a minimum of 150mm thick concrete, also the thickness of the wall will depend on the height, if your building it a metre hig...

Re: Tree Roots Have Damaged Wall, Cracks, Shifting Lintel and Help Needed With Fix

The problem is with the lintel not the tree root, the bearing is not enough and it has contracted causing the cracking.
Its best to remove the lintel and replace it with a concrete one, You will need 150mm minimum bearing on each side of the opening

Re: Advice on Type of Brick to use for Outdoor Concrete Top for Argentinian Style BBQ

yes you can use a pressed engineering brick, with the concrete top though you will need to tile it as concrete is porous and your wood/charcoal will get mouldy and wet

Re: New Fireplace but it's Smoking out Room Although Chimney all ok

you will need to create a throat for the smoke this will draw the air up the chimney, you can buy a fireback and throat from your local builders merchant, or you can build a brick fireback https://youtu.be/FKycKB0Ww9k

Re: Big Problems With Concrete Posts After Cowboy Job

the problem is you will have to remove the old concrete around the posts . and the posts will be covered in concrete, and it will be difficult to remove without damaging them. So labour costs are high. I would suggest using wire barrier fence, this will allow wind to pass through, and cheaper and ea...

Re: Is it Possible to Construct Conservatory Without Digging Footings

You can lay a reinforced slab of concrete, 150mm thick, but its stopping damp coming through the slab afterwards is the problem. You can paint the floor with a quality damp proof paint / sealant to stop it

Re: Will I Eventually Get Damp Problems With Small Parapet Wall

from the pictures weep holes have been left in the wall to allow water to seep out of the wall if water penetrates the coping slabs on the top of the wall, this could cause the wall to discolour after time, As for damp it looks unlikely
