Re: Lukewarm Hot Water - Hole in HWC Coil or Faulty 3 Way Valve?

Quite common on gravity systems. A reduction in heat to the hot water if the heating is working as it should, is normally a blockage in the primaries. Once you're happy the system is filling (try draining a radiator and then refilling, to check cold feed isn't blocked) drain the system and remove th...

Re: Heat Exchanger Automatic Air Vent leaking water After Refilling

The Automatic Airvent requires renewal, there may be dirt stopping the valve closing completely.

If you isolate the flow and return on the boiler, you only need to drop the water level in the boiler slightly.

Re: Pro Combi Boiler Turns Itself off Every so Often?

When the boiler is sitting with the red indicator light on, is there anything else showing on the display, any letters or numbers?

Can you hear anything when this happens, is the pump or fan running? it sounds as if there's something sticking intermittently.

How do you know the smell is a leak? it could be a blocked drain/gully.

Flue Gas Analyser

Can anyone recommend a good Flue Gas Analyser? our engineers currently use the Anton Sprint V2, they are good for the flue gas analysis and tightness tests, but are very poor for gas leak detection and always require repair/replacement parts at calibration which isn't cheap. Does anyone use the Kane...

Re: Estimating above ground MDPE blue pipe insulation for UV damage protection

Black Polyethylene pipes should be used for above ground potable water supplies, so it doesn't meet regulations to start with.

Have a look at:

unfortunately not Scotland but should be a good start.

Re: Combi hot tap shuts OFF!!

Did you ask for a combi boiler or did you ask for a new boiler/heating system and this is what they recommended/fitted? The customer normally requests a combi as they're a lot cheaper to buy and install than a system boiler. A system boiler and a decent cylinder will cost twice as much as a combi bo...

Re: Combi hot tap shuts OFF!!

Why does this cause an issue for you? there's thousands of people with combi boilers that learn to live with it. Combi boilers will happily supply one outlet, when other taps are used there will be a reduction in flow, sometimes resulting in no water at all from some outlets. If you're trying to run...

To be honest I skip the long posts too if in a hurry. The shorter posts tend to get more reponses :-)

Re: Worcester Bosch Greenstar 27HE Pressure Loss

If there is a constant drip like you say then it is likely to be a split on the main heatex.

It's also worth checking the pressure relief discharge outside, make sure there's no sign of the valve passing, it doesn't take much to lose 1 bar and it could go unnoticed outside.

Re: Flushing out a central heating system

It's definitely worth the time flushing the system, the X400 needs to be circulating at normal operating temperature, so not going to be any use in this case. You can find installers want to be in and away, I'm not sure why you've chosen the installer you have - hopefully it's recommendation? I woul...

Re: Lenth of condensation pipe from a boiler

11m is a very long run, I wouldn't install 11m of internal condensate pipework, you need 45mm per metre fall. By the 11th meter you'd need to be 19.5" lower than the 1st metre, which you will not get under a floor. You need to look for the shortest route, 3m or so. Fit a tundish to help with fl...

Re: Lenth of condensation pipe from a boiler

You must be Gas Safe Registered to install a gas appliance. Employ a gas safe registered engineer to install the boiler.
