i have a septic tank in the front garden. with all the recent rain the soakaway is over flowing. my house ids a the bottom of a hill and all the rain overfills the soakaway - at least 30 years old, and the excess water drains across the garden underground and comes our through drain holes in a low surrounding wall. a man with a digger will dig a new drainage pit but he says a 1 metre cube of stone is ok. this seems too small to me what is the average size of foul water pit. the system was jetted out last summer and the lasted ok until the recent rains.
