As a diyer, i really want to learn to plaster.
I have read the guides.
If skimming a large area, how do you stop the plaster put on first from going off before you finish the wall/section. And how do you get a consistant 1mm/2mm thickness across the area?
Looking at booking onto a plastering course but would like practice first

Stop plaster going off too quickly by using PVA solution applied to area to be plastered.

Keeping thickness consistent is practice & using consistent strokes.

If you are going to do a course do it BEFORE you wreck your own house!!

Also if you want to practice buy some plasterboard, stick it in the garden\garage & go for it. Plasterboard is the easiest surface to plaster onto (no PVA required) & will help you get a feel for it.

Unfortunately plastering is mainy about practice, best of luck...

stopping plaster going off - pva first and SPEED! consistent thickness? practice! unfortunately there are no real shortcuts to to developing a knack. the more you do it the better and faster you become.
