In mums bathroom the bath has a mixer tap with shower fitting. The hot water was coming out fine but the cold tap was a dribble.
After checking the tap insert and diverter I decided to open up the main stop cock and ease off the cold tap insert again expecting water to start gushing out... but with the tap insert now fully off the water was just bobbling over.
I have now had to unseal and de-panel the fitted bath to see what is going on underneath and found a Caleffi bath filter. I've never seen one of these before but adjusting the screw anticlockwise gave a proper flow again.
My question is... the word filter leads me to think this is something that should be maintained? It is a hard water area where limescale is a constant problem, just replaced her kettle and I've also just replaced all the cold tap aerators as well. Do people regularly replace these bath filters or is opening up the valve job done before I re-seal everything again?
If I do need to replace the filter, can I just use a spanner to undo the grey piece and replace it?, are they universal?, I'd rather not replace the whole thing as it is near impossible to work around.
