Soakaway in clay

by billroberts » Wed May 02, 2007 1:50 pm

You say in your sheet that soakaways don't work in clay. Since all the surrounding soil in my garden is thick clay, what do I do to get rid or run off water from surrounding area? (I'm at the bottom of a long slope)

If it wont drain where it is Bill you need to run it or pipe it to somewhere where it will drain away. If thats not possible then the other option is to store it in a fish pond or underground tank and pump it away. If its surface (rain) water see if you can direct it or pipe it to a surface water manhole, ie the one that takes water from your gutters.
